Sally - Counsellor

Hello, I'm Sally. I have been working as a children and young people’s counsellor for six years, and I absolutely love what I do. I find it incredibly rewarding to support young people through life’s challenges, helping them build confidence and understand their feelings. It is important to me that every young person feels heard, valued and accepted without judgement in their counselling sessions.

How I Work?

I aim to create a warm, consistent, welcoming space where children and young people feel can listened to and able to be themselves. I take a person-centred, child-led approach, allowing each young person to work at their own pace. Alongside talking, I use creative activities such as drawing, crafts and games to build the therapeutic relationship, and also adapt sessions depending on each child’s age, interests and needs so that they can express themselves in a way that works for them.

My Experience in Providing Therapy

I have gained counselling experience across a range of settings, including secondary schools and charities. I began my counselling career with Place2Be in secondary schools and also worked with Base 25 in Wolverhampton, providing short-term counselling. For the past four years, I have worked as a school counsellor in a secondary school and spent four years with Black Country Women’s Aid, supporting young people affected by trauma. I have also worked freelance with organisations including Mindful Life Counselling and Educational Psychology for Everyone.

What Can Children Expect From Me?

Counselling can feel scary at first - I want to reassure you that I’m here to support you, and there’s no pressure to share anything before you feel ready. Counselling is about trust and safety, and building trust takes time. We can take things at your pace, and you don’t have to have all the answers or know where to start, we can work as a team and figure it out together.

A Little About Me

In my spare time, I enjoy getting outside and going on walks, tackling spontaneous DIY projects and doing a bit of crocheting! I also love to cook and experiment with new recipes.

My Message to Children

I understand that you might feel nervous about meeting me, but I’m here to listen, support you and help you feel understood. Counselling is always your choice, and it’s okay if you decide it isn’t right for you.
