Sam - Director & Counsellor

Welcome! I’m Sam, Founder and Director of Little Lighthouse Counselling, as well as a practising counsellor. I’m passionate about helping children and young people feel safe, understood and empowered to navigate life’s challenges. I find it incredibly rewarding to see children develop confidence, recognise their strengths and express their feelings. My approach centres on building trust, celebrating individuality and working at each child’s pace, while collaborating with families and schools to support their emotional wellbeing and help them thrive.

Compassionate Dedicated Empowering

How I Work?

I believe building trust is the foundation of effective counselling. I create a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where children and young people feel safe to express themselves at their own pace. I adapt my approach to each child's individual needs, using talking, creative activities and play-based techniques where appropriate. By listening carefully, showing empathy and respecting each child's individuality, I aim to help them feel understood, develop emotional awareness and build the confidence and resilience to navigate life's challenges.

My Experience in Providing Therapy

My professional journey began within NHS trusts across Birmingham and Walsall, where I gained 5 years of valuable experience. Alongside this, I developed my passion for education as a fully qualified teacher in further and higher education, teaching psychology and health and social care. After establishing my private counselling practice and working independently for six years, I took the next step in 2026 by growing it into Little Lighthouse Counselling, a multi-therapist practice committed to providing compassionate, high-quality support for children and young people.

What Can Children Expect From Me?

It’s okay to feel a little nervous! You don’t have to talk about anything until you feel ready. We can chat, play games, draw, get creative or simply spend time getting to know each other. There’s no right or wrong way to feel, and you don’t have to have all the answers. You can ask me anything you’re wondering about, at any time. We’ll take things one step at a time, and you can always be yourself with me.

A Little About Me

Outside of work, I love spending time with my own children and enjoying the little moments of family life. I’m an animal lover who enjoys being outdoors and connecting with nature. I also love listening to podcasts, exploring new ideas and continually learning.

My Message to Children

Counselling is a safe space to explore feelings, play, talk, create and grow. We can chat, play, draw or just get to know each other. You can choose what feels right for you, and you don’t have to talk until you’re ready. You can ask me anything, and always be yourself!
